Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and Legend Brewing Co. Announce Strategic Partnership to Produce and Distribute Flagship Legend Brown Ale
Virginia’s oldest continually operating brewery partners with Hardywood to transition production and wholesale operations of its award-winning, iconic Brown Ale to Hardywood’s West Creek facility.
RICHMOND, VA — June 17, 2026 — Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and Legend Brewing Co., two foundational pillars of the Virginia craft beer movement, today announced a new strategic partnership whereby Hardywood will assume full responsibility for the production, distribution, and wholesale sales of Legend’s most popular, highly decorated flagship beer—Legend Brown Ale.
The move represents a proactive, collaborative approach to navigating a highly competitive craft beverage market by leveraging Hardywood’s state-of-the-art production capacity and wholesale infrastructure, while ensuring the ongoing enjoyment of one of the Commonwealth’s most legendary beers.
A Legacy of Mutual Respect and Cooperation
The partnership marks a full-circle moment for both breweries. When Hardywood was founded in 2011, the leadership team at Legend Brewing Co.—trailblazers of Virginia’s craft beer movement—generously helped Hardywood brew its very first commercial production batch of Hardywood Singel.

Legends Never Die
Founded in 1994 by Tom Martin, Legend Brewing Co. is Virginia’s longest continually operating craft brewery. Legend’s journey began in a small tasting room and pub off an old gravel road on West 6th Street in Richmond’s Historic Old Manchester District. Drawn to a stunning hillside view of the James River and the city skyline, Martin knew the location was the perfect birthplace for Richmond’s craft brewing revolution.
For 32 years, Legend has survived and thrived by staying true to its roots while adapting to changing times. Its iconic packaging, adorned with a regal unicorn, is a historic nod to Richmond’s landscape—the unicorn represents the coat of arms of the House of Scotland, paying homage to King James VI of Scotland, the namesake of both Jamestown and the James River.
