Hardywood Brewery Presents ️ 6 Decades of the Dead  with Suggesting Rhythm.  ️

Travel through time with Suggesting Rhythm in 2026 as we celebrate the evolution of the music of Grateful Dead & Post-Garcia Projects (1965-2025) — from the psychedelic 60s to the modern era. Each night spotlights a different decade and era of the Dead.  Capturing the sound, spirit, and improvisation that defined generations.  We'll follow along with the evolution of the band and post bands that continued after the death of Jerry Garcia.

Six shows. Six decades. One incredible musical journey.

Room for Improvement (RFI) formed amid the pandemic when a group of close friends gathered on Sunday afternoons in a socially distant setting to play music. Initially the group was small, and the focus was on identifying what style of music RFI would play. As restrictions eased, additional band members were added who had significant prior experience in bands such as Hedley Lamar, The Mix, Synaptic Gap, and 2.3 Children. With these additions and regular practice sessions, RFI evolved into a fun, well respected band that can rip through a set of classic rock and blues songs (and a few 80s hair band tunes thrown in for fun). RFI will never forget its humble beginnings and strives to make each show the best one yet!

The Garden Variety String Band (GVSB) is an award-winning five-piece bluegrass band based in Richmond, Virginia, blending traditional old-time, folk, and bluegrass music with a modern twist. Renowned for high-energy shows, they were named the 2024 & 2025 Bluegrass/Old Timey/Folk Band of the Year by RVA Magazine's reader poll.

With high-energy performances, great vibes, and plenty of moments to cheers to love and memories, this show keeps things light while still honoring their impact. Each table will feature a dedicated chair in honor of a mother who has passed—a beautiful reminder that their love still has a seat at the table and they're always part of the party.

Both shows are ticketed, but are open to everyone—no matter your story. However you choose to show up, you’re invited to celebrate, reflect, and connect in whatever way feels right for you. Cheers to every mom in our lives.

Tickets are limited for both events. 

For those attending the Mom-morial brunch, and would like a chair dedicated to a mom you have lost, please add a ticket listed as "MOM-MORIAL SEAT". If you reserve a dedicated seat in honor of your mom, you’re welcome to bring a photo or small item that represents her to make this day feel closer to her.

Pet Moose Project is a Richmond, VA based 5 piece ensemble taking their name from the recording studio where they write and rehearse.   After playing in various rock and jam bands over the past decades, the members of the project found a new frontier in a meshing of like minds and original music creation.   The band pursues an Americana / southern rock / alt country sound with a bit of jam band influence in the mix.    The band focuses on live performances and plays locally and regionally as often as possible.  The band features Nelson Edmunds on drums, percussion, and vocals; Phil Hatfield on keys; Rob Henley on lead guitar and vocals; John Munson on bass; and Jimmy Shannon on rhythm guitar and lead vocals.

The Folly returns to Hardywood for a night of amazing music. Join the fun!

Mackenzie Roark and the Hotpants is a magnetic fusion of classic country, 70’s folk, and raw rock and roll, hailing from Richmond, Virginia. The Kevin Gaines Trio is composed on a basic foundation of Bass, Drums and a 3rd instrument. (Usually a chord instrument) The instrumentation may change and/or expand, but usually performs Jazz Standards in a sometimes not so standard way. The Trio can expand to a plus formation to accommodate any performance requests. Nothing is more fun and energizing than adding another voicing. Bassist Matt Hall has been a constant. We’ve played together since meeting during his freshmen days at VCU. (Lol, I won’t date us) A Great person, friend, and a Killn’ Bass player. He is in demand for many formidable Musicians and Bands.  I’m fortunate to get him when I can.  The “3rd” has been a rotating cast of Kat’s that I’m Proud to share the stage with. It’s a matter of which of these “In-Demand” Kats are available.
