It is led by several experienced musicians, and we aim to play outside when the weather cooperates.

Ian Blackwood is the founder and writer behind Blackwood Station. He was raised in the Finger Lakes region of NY where he grew to love the freewheeling and experimental nature of 60s album rock from his father’s extensive record collection. After moving to Richmond in 2014 he focused on honing his talent as a mandolin and fiddle player in the local alt-country scene and currently performs with Woody Woodworth & The Piners and Dogwood Brothers.

Luke has played around central Va for 14+ years in both bands and as a solo artist. He brings his Springsteen-esqe gritty, authentic storytelling voice to familiar songs ranging from classic and modern rock, country, Americana, and even pop songs,  along his own songwriting. His former guitarist described him in the mold of “Modernized heartland rock with a stonesy swagger.”

The Kevin Gaines Trio is composed on a basic foundation of Bass, Drums and a 3rd instrument. (Usually a chord instrument) The instrumentation may change and/or expand, but usually performs Jazz Standards in a sometimes not so standard way. The Trio can expand to a plus formation to accommodate any performance requests. Nothing is more fun and energizing than adding another voicing. Bassist Matt Hall has been a constant. We’ve played together since meeting during his freshmen days at VCU. (Lol, I won’t date us) A Great person, friend, and a Killn’ Bass player. He is in demand for many formidable Musicians and Bands.  I’m fortunate to get him when I can.  The “3rd” has been a rotating cast of Kat’s that I’m Proud to share the stage with. It’s a matter of which of these “In-Demand” Kats are available.

Born and raised a New England girl, Jocelyn Oldham has now spent over half her life in Virginia. She performs full time as a solo artist all over Richmond, Hampton Roads, and beyond for any and all occasions. With her amazing voice, Jocelyn performs popular cover tunes on both guitar and ukulele that span several genres and appeal to many generations. From Pasty Cline and the Beatles to Colbie Caillet and her all time favorite Ingrid Michaelson. If you're looking for a wide musical selection her extensive song list is sure to please most any crowd young and old. Whether she is entertaining center stage or simply fulfilling the desire for background music, Jocelyn's voice is her passion and it shines through in each performance. 

Corey El is an American singer, song-writer and music producer. As a self-professed introvert, his enigmatic presence in the world of music is one of wonder and elation for those who have discovered or heard one of the industry's best kept secrets. With a soulful wisdom far beyond his years and a finger on the pulse of his generation, Corey El lends a fresh perspective to a decades worth of musical styles inspired by the pioneering sounds of soul, funk and hip hop.

​Born and raised in Virginia, the son of dexterous professional and multi-instrumentalist Carl Lester-El, young Corey inherently understood the power of music to change moods and points of view while connecting people’s hearts and minds on a global scale. With a natural ear for a multi-genre of melodies and grooves, he was able to express himself instantly through singing.

His father taught him how to track on a Casio keyboard, and as soon as he learned to write, he was making his own fully produced songs. As a teenager, Corey was already producing, writing and arranging for local artists and he eventually felt the pull to focus on creating his own original work as the featured voice in the studio.

1996 is a collection of Richmond musicians dedicated to playing alternative rock songs from the year 1996.
